What to put on a simple bill
- Your shop or business name, address and phone number
- Bill number and date
- The customer's name (and phone, if you deliver)
- Each item with quantity, rate and amount
- Subtotal, any discount, tax if you charge it, and the total
- How the customer paid, or when payment is due
Bill or invoice?
In everyday use they mean the same: a request for payment. Shops and restaurants usually say bill; businesses selling to other businesses usually say invoice. Under Indian GST, though, the words have legal meanings: a tax invoice charges GST, and a bill of supply is issued by composition dealers and for exempt goods, with no GST on it.
Bill of supply format (GST)
A bill of supply shows your name, address and GSTIN, a serial number, the date, the customer's details, HSN or SAC codes, a description and the value. A composition dealer also writes composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies on it. Use the maker with the type set to Bill and no tax percent.
